Anoka Ramsey fought back for a split with the Augsburg JV team
After falling behind 8-0 in the first-inning of its first game with the Augsburg College JV team Friday afternoon at Wintercrest West, Anoka Ramsey scrapped back in the late-afternoon contest to earn a split with a 5-4 second-game win.
A two-out bloop single to right center by Andrew “Goose” Gazich (freshman, Blaine), scored Zach Schroeder (freshman, Concordia Academy) from second in the last of the sixth with the tie-breaking and ultimate game-winning run. Anoka Ramsey had fallen behind 4-2 in the top of the fourth but scored one in the last of the fourth, then tied the game in the last of the fifth thanks to a sacrifice fly to center off the bat of Andy Evans (freshman, Coon Rapids).
In the last of the sixth Schroeder managed a two-out walk, then stole second two pitches after teammate Steve Thiel (freshman, Osseo) had walked and was thrown out attempting to steal. There, Schroeder took off on his trek to the plate after Gazich popped the ball between Augsburg’s center and right fielders.
Anoka Ramsey never recovered from its rough, early start in game one — an 8-run deficit. Certainly, starting pitcher Brett Boxwell (freshman, Coon Rapids) did not as he failed to get out of the first inning before he was relieved of duty…
