Splitsville was the theme again
Anoka Ramsey gained no ground and lost no ground in the Central Division as it split a Sunday doublheader (April 19) with Central Lakes College in Brainerd.
The team took the opener 11-5, overcoming an early 3-1 deficit with a 6-run fourth inning rally. Casey VanKrevelen (freshman, Andover) and Adam Runkel (sophomore, Mounds View) drove in two runs each, while Ben Nergard (freshman, Fridley) singled home another. VanKrevelen and Andy Evans (freshman, Coon Rapids) drove in runs during Anoka Ramsey’s 3-run sixth and VanKrevelen, who had four hits, completed a 4-RBI day by driving home another run in the seventh.
Meantime, Chris Hoff (freshman, Champlin Park), picked up the win in relief of starter Trevin Benson (freshman, Spring Lake Park) by pitching the final four innings.
In game two, Anoka Ramsey jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first, when VanKrevelen reached on an infield single and moved to third when the ball was thrown away (late) on the same play. There, he was in position to score when Runkel singled. But that was it for Anoka Ramsey, which managed just three more hits the rest of the way (another by Runkel). And when the Anoka Ramsey pitching staff was roughed up early for six runs in the first, two more in the second and another four in the third, it was staring up at a 12-1 deficit and eventual loss in five innings.
The team now heads to Fergus Falls for a Tuesday doubleheader with MSCTC-Fergus Falls with a 5-3 Central Division record…
