Saturday results give AR its post-season ‘in’ to the MCAC tourney
A doubleheader sweep — 11-7 and 18-6 — over St. Cloud Technical College combined with MSCTC-Fergus Falls’ sweep of Central Lakes Saturday afternoon, April 25, gave Anoka Ramsey an opportunity to play in the MCAC (state) tournament for the first time since 2004.
Anoka Ramsey moved to 8-6 in the Central Division standings and can finish no worse than 8-8 if it should lose both games of its final doubleheader with MSCTC-Fergus Falls scheduled for April 26. Central Lakes, meantime, wrapped up its regular-season schedule with its doubleheader loss in Fergus Falls and finished 7-9. Ridgewater can tie Anoka Ramsey for second in the Central Division (behind champion MSTC-Fergus Falls) if it beats St. Cloud Technical twice in its final doubleheader and Anoka Ramsey loses the two to MSCTC-Fergus Falls.
Because three teams from the Central Division qualify, however, Anoka Ramsey is already a lock for post-season play. If Ridgewater should split its final doublehader with St. Cloud Technical, it would then tie Central Lakes for the third and final playoff spot. The MCAC, consequently, will invoke a tie-breaker.
Anoka Ramsey’s first-round playoff game will be decided during a conference seeding meeting either April 27 or 28. The MCAC tournament is scheduled May 1-3 in St. Cloud…
