Three gained post-season honors

Freshmen Casey Vankrevelen (Andover), Benny Nergard (Fridley) and Andy Evans (Coon Rapids) were all recipients of post-season awards in the MCAC.

Vankrevelen, who played center field and served as the team’s short relief ace and lead-off batter in the line up, led the team in doubles with 10, drove in 15 runs and had 2 homers. Vankrevelen, who finished with a .372 batting average (35 hits in 94 at bats), was named both all-Central Division and all-MCAC.

Nergard, who played outfield, third base and first base during the season, was named all-Central Division and all-MCAC after establishing a new single-season Anoka Ramsey record for batting average — .514 (37 hits in 72 at bats). Nergard was just nine off the single-season record for most hits in one season (46 by Pete Schallenberger, in 2004), but is within 43 of Schallenberger’s all-time, two-year hit total record of 80.

Evans, who was the team’s first baseman and went by the moniker “Big Dog,” was named all-Central Division for his season’s performance at the plate. Evans led the team in home runs (3), RBI (25) sacrifices (5) and finished with a .403 average (29 hits in 72 at bats). His final week of the regular season efforts (14 RBI and a batting average in excess of .700) earned him the MCAC ‘Player of the Week’ award…
