Bat ruling: NCAA makes clarification

The National Junior College Athletic Association announced that it will adopt the recent NCAA ruling prohibiting bats with composite barrels in the sport of baseball effective immediately. The national office has received many calls regarding the bat ban and would like to clear up some misconceptions.

The NCAA Baseball Playing Rules has adopted an indefinite ban on compositione bats. This ban on composition is limited only to COMPOSITE BARRELS. Therefore only ALUMINUM BARRELS are legal for competition. Popular two-piece bats that have a composite handle and an aluminum barrel are also legal. The key rule to remember is that composite barrels are illegal.

NJCAA Regions and or Conferences that select to use wood bats for competition can use wood composite bats like the Baum Bat.

The NCAA has yet to produce a ‘certified bat list’ for the 2010 season. However, equipment retailer Baseball Express has produced a very good list of legal and illegal bats that they currently have in stock.

Please note that this list in NOT a comprehensive list. The NJCAA is referring these lists to you as a reference for the time being. Once the NCAA releases its list the NJCAA national office will forward it to the membership.
